Jerome Zürcher (PI)
Jerome Zürcher is a Group Leader at the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) and an associate Professor at the University of Oxford Department of chemistry.
Jerome completed an undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary sciences at ETH in Zurich, pursuing dissertation research at Harvard Medical School under Prof. Pamela Silver. He also obtained a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary science from ETH, where he was in the Excellence Scholar and Opportunity Programme (ESOP). For his PhD, he worked under Prof. Jason Chin at the MRC LMB, where he developed approaches to rapidly synthesize DNA at the megabase scale and pioneered genetic code refactoring for the bi-directional genetic isolation of organisms. He also was a junior research fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge and a visiting researcher at the Innovative Genomics Institute at UC Berkeley, where he worked with Prof. Jillian Banfield on genome resolved metagenomics.
